COMPULSION~by Chryssa Velissariou

OUR POETRY CORNER

COMPULSION

That was a burst
She was used to it long ago
When he did not take
his medication
or if it had no use for once
he was becoming violent
or depressed
He was saying truths
but unconsciously
Maybe he was expressing
his intact subconscious
In the mean time
she was caressing her children
She was covering them with her
protective wings
And she was whispering to them
” Forgive him!
Be quiet, today!
Dad is Sick … ” Then he
was turning himself
towards his unreachable world …
“If I had the money ”
he was saying ” I will avenge you all !
I will abandon you all !
I do not want anyone to love me ! ”
If she was stopping talking to him
If she was reacting
he was loosing himself
for days
even if he was staying with them

He was comporting absurdly

BENIGN LUMPINESS

I write poems in my sleep
or when I wake up or when I cry.
I was many years in silencing,
now the cup has overflowed.

I talked to myself metering syllables,
every time my inhuman logic retreated,
I let my emotion to breathe.

My best poems are unwritten,
they are inscribed on my heart’s scars.

I protected you, my reason,
when you were chirping arrogantly,
showing off to me your big words…

Until now I withstood to do not yell,
to keep the tones low.
I reduced myself with rhymes and meters,
hid myself behind the pace,
or earlier sung the pain of others.

The knot in the neck is now cureless.
I suffer from benign lumpiness of the spirit,
Overproduction of emotional cells.
I must methodically remove the extra
to avoid harming of my vital organs …
I always hope the prognosis to be true:

My disease not to be contagious.

ETERNAL TREES

Breath of life is being stopped!
The woods, evergreen high walls
deadened by axes
just like war corrupts
always history

Through any obscene pretentions
the woodcutters are pushed by
material interests
dead trees to throw to
the raging river

To the open sea the stream
massively drifts the big logs
they’re all uniform
as human masses
thrown to consumption

From time to time a creator
changes the shapeless wooden
in a boat for trips
just like a poet sculpts
his soul to blossom

Then ancient strength and wisdom
of the eternal ancestors
flows into mankind
dreamer’s oxygen
brings back life again

WATERFALL

Wisdom’s momentum

as an impetuous stream
flows with strong splashing
rich foams and noises
to sparkle, to shake ,to wake up

But when the water
of the knowledge in a swamp
poured with no exit
still stays stagnated
real life stops growing in there

If there’s a fissure
liquid spirit escapes through
to become cool creek
which to other people
generates fertilizing

As stream towards sea
quenches the thirst of the earth
the creative mind should
overflow its wealth
fellow souls to cultivate

Bellevalia brevipedicellata

Bellevalia brevipedicellata (Family: Hyacinthaceae)

Location: Koundura, South West Crete
Date: 30 December 2011
Περιοχή: Κουντούρα, Νοτιοδυτική Κρήτη
Ημερομηνία: 30 Δεκέμβριος 2011

Bellevalia brevipedicellata, is an endemic species restricted to the south-west corner of Crete and Gavdos island. It grows in calcareous rock crevices, phrygana and on open, rocky hillsides from sea level to 150 m, flowering from January to March. The leaves are long and strap-like (up to 20×4 cm) and the elongating racemes bear 10-30 nearly sessile flowers with a white perianth tube and pinkish lobes with a green midvein. The strongly 3-angled fruits are, 8-11mm wide, which is larger than Cretan Muscari fruits and a useful diagnostic feature because most people see the plants in April or May well after flowering has finished. The species is listed in the Greek Red Data Book as vulnerable.[photo ref: Bellevalia brevipedicellata (Hyacinthaceae) 2011 Dec. 30, KoundouraSW Crete (14)]

THE GOLDEN CAGE

I’m just alone into the crowd!
Choking myself with presences,
That I need but can not support,
I loved  , but I’m exhausted now,
I am a good public benefit
Unit …I cook and clean up right…
I wash dishes and I caress …
Available when they wish it
As vessel of one way pleasure …
Occasionally I get mercy
“Profusely”, “extravagantly”
Do not be underclass, my made!
We don’t want that ,do we? No,no!
What else could you…oh no! Do you
Possibly desire more though?
You’re covered, secure, unharmed …
Give, give, give! Will you shut up now!
Do not breath, do not do excess! You
Are made for fine, innocent things!
You aren’t alowed of…Don’t even think!
Falling in love ! Oh, what a shame!
Ah… So that it was, demon!
You deny the law, the right!
You throw bombs in what we possess
As pillar and hope,as  holy blessed !
In the outer fire immediately!
Ought not to exist insufficiently!
Duty! Do not feel! Do not desire!
Adapt! Accept! Switch off right now!
Wipe out yourself! You can, can’t you?
In another life you will see,
You’ll be paid back …Oh,yes! You do!
In this one it is  forbidden
For you to find pleasure again …
Adapt! Accept! Switch off right now!
Duty! Do not feel! Do not desire!

“Caryophyllaceae

Bufonia stricta (Sm.) Gürke subsp. stricta
Greece: Sterea Ellas, Mt Gerania, c. 2.5 km east of the summit Makriplagi, limestone rocks, c.
1000 m, 38°01′N, 23°09′E, 20.6.1993, Const. 3901 (UPA).
Bufonia stricta subsp. stricta, a Greek endemic, is known from several localities in Crete,
but is rare on the mainland, where it is only known from Mt Parnon (Peloponnisos) and a
few mountains in Attiki. Montmollin (1984, 1986) studied two Cretan populations and counted
2n = 18 and n = 9 respectively. Our results, the first from the Greek mainland, confirm the
previous counts. The related, recently described B. euboica Phitos & Kamari also has 2n = 18
(Phitos & Kamari 1992).”

THE WIN

When you recover
if your Pain goes away

when Passions have been chased

if you let Horror
-in which you undergo-
go
Then  look at me
deep in my Eyes!
You will not be Afraid of
what you ‘ll see inside
You will Recognize
the look of mine
that one saying “I adore you”
which always  only with Truth
has treated you.
Then you will Sigh
and you will be in Peace
Then you will know
that your Loneliness
was almost agonizing with me
and then
you will Love me again
I Want this so much!
That way the day I’ll leave
to be met with the Unknown
I will at last have Won
against My self

Ranunculus ficaria subsp. chrysocephalus

Ranunculus ficaria subsp. chrysocephalus (Family: Ranunculaceae)

Location: Katharo plain, East Crete, Greece
Date: 21 March 2009

Τοποθεσία: Καθαρού πεδιάδα, Ανατολική Κρήτη, Ελλάδα
Ημερομηνία: 21 Μαρτίου 2009

Ranunculus ficaria, lesser celandine, is an early-flowering tuberous plant of woodland, olive groves, damp ground and cultivated or fallow fields up to 1400 metres. Cretan plants are subsp. chrysocephalus, which was descibed in 1991 to include plants formerly treated as subsp. ficariiformis (for example: in the first edition of Flora Europaea). Widespread in Crete, subsp. chrysocephalus differs in its lack of axillary bulbils (offsets); also note the robust erect stems, often forming sturdy clumps of rounded leaves similar to those of Caltha palustris (marsh marigold).

IN EXILE

You are smiling but
your eyes are no longer looking  for me
You think
I don’t  see you anymore
-ha- as if it were
possible this
as long as you live!
You got what you need with you
I was unnecessary
I was intruding in your life
insignificant from the beginning …
Now I ‘m in collapsing
and you are hoping again
You could not feel, how happy I am for this
Even if I am doomed to disappear
Do not see me
do not look at me!
Continue to smile!
Continue to live!
I will be forever
hidden in the sad love song of the robin
as you walk in the woods
sucking life
You probably would listen me
in the passionate roaring
of the waves crashing on the rocks
Perhaps again you would not…
I am changing
I have been altered much in exile
I am no longer the carefree adolescent you knew…
I  am growing old and I fend off
irrevocably
You would not recognize me
I am learning now better
accompagnied by wolves
I am surviving through my bestial instinctsImage

SIDE EFFECTS

I’m jealous, unbearably jealous!
I want to take off your pretty eyes
which I adore.
To hit you there
where you hurt the most!
I did not sleep last night floundering.
We’re not together and I was  seeking for you, wandering.
To be a little piece in your life at least
that’s what I want
So curses I knit,
I throw spells and I hate
whoever you give the privilege
to stay near you.
I will all ruin them because of it!
I will plunge to their hearts my dagger
to take my revenge of  you.
So that all barriers to be removed
and so you need to come and ask from me again,
whatever they provide to you, my sorrow!
To be me the only one to whom you kneel.
But you’re heartless, you look at
my loneliness with disgust
and you despise me twice.
You just don’t care even if my hurting wounds bleed .
You forgot me, just forgot me! I am mourning!
I’ll never be there for you anymore!
You just will not allow it to me,
even if my dreams are so benign …
Villain! I envy you, that you are indifferent
and that you never hesitated to erase
from the blackboard of your mind
what  was written with a chalk
by the hand of my soul …
Villain,I am just begging for a little niche beside you
and you keep depriving me from it !
