WATERFALL

Wisdom’s momentum

as an impetuous stream
flows with strong splashing
rich foams and noises
to sparkle, to shake ,to wake up

But when the water
of the knowledge in a swamp
poured with no exit
still stays stagnated
real life stops growing in there

If there’s a fissure
liquid spirit escapes through
to become cool creek
which to other people
generates fertilizing

As stream towards sea
quenches the thirst of the earth
the creative mind should
overflow its wealth
fellow souls to cultivate

Bellevalia brevipedicellata

Bellevalia brevipedicellata (Family: Hyacinthaceae)

Location: Koundura, South West Crete
Date: 30 December 2011
Περιοχή: Κουντούρα, Νοτιοδυτική Κρήτη
Ημερομηνία: 30 Δεκέμβριος 2011

Bellevalia brevipedicellata, is an endemic species restricted to the south-west corner of Crete and Gavdos island. It grows in calcareous rock crevices, phrygana and on open, rocky hillsides from sea level to 150 m, flowering from January to March. The leaves are long and strap-like (up to 20×4 cm) and the elongating racemes bear 10-30 nearly sessile flowers with a white perianth tube and pinkish lobes with a green midvein. The strongly 3-angled fruits are, 8-11mm wide, which is larger than Cretan Muscari fruits and a useful diagnostic feature because most people see the plants in April or May well after flowering has finished. The species is listed in the Greek Red Data Book as vulnerable.[photo ref: Bellevalia brevipedicellata (Hyacinthaceae) 2011 Dec. 30, KoundouraSW Crete (14)]
